Property is a mixed media work born from discomfort and deep personal exploration. Built through layered gesso and paint—each one sanded back until it felt right—the surface is smooth, tactile, and unexpectedly femininely pink.
Hints of blue from an earlier layer shimmer through, adding depth to the surface and the symbolism. As I created this piece through stream of consciousness journaling, I was grappling with ideas of marriage, feminism, and the historical notion of a wife as property. The shapes and figures seemed to emerge on their own, carrying emotion I hadn’t planned.
This piece holds contradiction—softness and tension, beauty and resistance. Once you see what’s within it, it’s difficult to unsee.

Construction & Display: This piece is created on a wood panel with intentionally visible sides to highlight the medium's character. On the back, small wooden blocks are secured to lift the artwork slightly from the wall, creating a floating effect with a soft shadow. The piece comes ready to hang with a wire and sawtooth hanger installed. **The depth includes the blocks and the board.
