Lenten Rose

$303.03

Lenten Rose was full of surprises from the beginning. I started with layered gesso and paint, sanding between each in a meditative rhythm. The base emerged in cool, almost monochromatic tones—an icy, quiet piece I was curious to meet.

Then came a turning point: the piece “chose” a gold colored pencil for the outer work. It disrupted the calm in the most beautiful way, like light reflecting on water. My stream of consciousness words flowing like an ocean across the surface.

When a bright pink pen made its way in, I resisted at first—it felt out of place. But I chose to trust the process. To my surprise, it brought contrast, life, and energy, transforming the mood entirely. That bold pop of color became a symbol of hope—of new beginnings.

The title, Lenten Rose, didn’t come easily. I had to coax it out, letter by letter, only realizing in the end how perfectly it fit. Like its namesake flower blooming in winter’s wake, this piece became a reminder: that beauty, rebirth, and guidance can emerge from the coldest seasons—if we trust the process.
