Created using pencils of varying softness, my stream of consciousness journaling became both delicate and bold—darker in places, lighter in others. The piece asked for sanding again after the background was laid down, revealing a fragile beauty I hadn’t anticipated.
Her form emerged gently, and with it, light—quiet, steady, and undeniable. At the time, I was navigating the emotional complexities of co-parenting my young daughter, and those feelings quietly wove themselves into her shapes.
Akin is a gentle piece—honest, intuitive, and quietly powerful. Her name didn’t reveal itself until the very end, but once it did, it fit perfectly.
